'Art Installation Made Effortless'

Our picture hanging service covers Thame, Lea Park, Long Crendon, Haddenham and the wider OX9 area. We’re a team of gallery-trained installers and curators with technicians based in Oxford, rated five stars on Google and featured on BBC DIY SOS. From a single canvas above the sofa in a Lea Park family home to a 30-piece install across a High Street Georgian town house, we bring the same meticulous approach to every job.

Working in Thame family homes, High Street town houses and the villages either side of the county line

Most of Thame’s housing is post-war, and that’s where most of our work is: the 1960s and 70s houses of Lea Park and the streets off Chinnor Road, Windmill Road and Queens Road, the 1980s and 90s infill around Cuttle Brook, and the developments off Oxford Road and Thame Park Road that have grown the town noticeably over the last decade. Brick and hard plaster in the older houses; blockwork and dot-and-dab plasterboard in the newer ones, which changes the fixing for anything heavy. This is family-home territory, with the Lord Williams’s catchment and the fast line from Haddenham & Thame Parkway bringing a steady flow of families out from London, so a lot of our work follows a house move. We hang gallery walls up stairwells, single pieces over mantels and full residential rollouts. A single piece in one room is just as welcome as a whole-house install.

The High Street is the period layer: one of the widest in the country, and lined end to end with listed buildings. Georgian fronts hide 15th- and 16th-century timber frames, the Birdcage and the Six Bells show their timbers openly, and Priest End, Church Road and Park Street run through Tudor, Georgian and Victorian in a few hundred yards, with the medieval Prebendal House and St Mary’s at the far end. Midsomer Murders has filmed here for 25 years for a reason. Timber studs, lath and plaster, brick nogging and lime render: we find the frame before drilling, use reversible fixings on soft infill and fit picture hanging systems where listed building consent rules out new holes.

Over the county line the villages change character again. Long Crendon’s High Street is one of the best timber-framed streets in Buckinghamshire, and Haddenham is built in witchert, the local chalk-and-straw earth wall that’s two feet thick, soft, and won’t hold an ordinary wall plug. Towersey, Tetsworth, Sydenham, Great Milton and Chinnor add thatched cottages, converted barns and substantial modern houses with double-height hallways and galleried landings that call for large pieces and heavy mirrors. We’ll always confirm the wall type before drilling, whatever the property.

Would highly recommend Conor from Hang it Services. He did a great job with about 50 pictures and a heavy mirror in my house. He took time to advise me which pictures could stay where they are, which could be rehung or regrouped and the best place for them to go. He then worked quickly and professionally to get everything up by the end of the day. I am very happy with the result!

Extremely happy with the service I received from Hang It Services. Callum put up a large very heavy mirror and several pictures for us. He advised on placement knowledgeably and was meticulous with measurements to ensure that the items were hung where we agreed and perfectly straight. He was professional and friendly. I wouldn’t hesitate to use this company again.

I had Rowan to hang about 30 pictures both large and small after a redecoration and he’s done a fantastic job and also gave invaluable advice on placement. Some are hung lower than I would have put them or grouped slightly differently but this is where it pays to use an expert rather than getting in a handyman as they look so very good.

James visited for the second time to hang some more pictures. From initial enquiry to carrying out the task is quick. He takes time to explain the options of hanging and also what will look best. He works efficiently and tidily. I would have no hesitation in recommending James for any hanging requirements that you may have.

Absolutely loved the experience of having ‘Hang It’ sort all my pictures out. James was brilliant and has such a good eye for what works where . I can’t recommend them enough, from the super friendly and efficient David in the office, to meeting and spending the day with James. Moving house can be so stressful but using such a brilliant company to hang your pictures is definitely a wonderful treat. Thanks guys , Gaynor

Picture hanging Oxford FAQs

Most Thame bookings happen within a few days. For urgent jobs, we can sometimes fit them in within 48 hours. Call us, and we’ll give you our up-to-date availability.

Yes. A lot of our Thame work is one piece in one room. Photo-First quote system means you’ll know the price before we arrive, so there’s no minimum-spend surprise.

Yes. Almost the whole High Street is listed, and behind most of the Georgian brick there’s a much older timber frame with lath and plaster, wattle or brick infill and the occasional wall that’s nowhere near square. We locate the studs first, fix into them where possible, use reversible fixings on soft infill, and fit picture hanging systems where listed building consent rules out new wall holes.

Witchert is chalk mud and straw, thick and soft, and a standard plug simply pulls out of it. We use long fixings designed for earth walls, spread the load on anything heavy, and on listed or particularly soft walls we usually recommend a picture hanging system that takes the weight along a top rail fixed into sound timber rather than into the witchert itself. The same approach works for the cob and timber-framed cottages in Long Crendon.

Yes. Long Crendon, Haddenham, Kingsey, Towersey, Tetsworth, Sydenham, Chinnor, Great Milton and Wheatley are all inside our Thame coverage, whichever side of the county line they sit. Between them they run from thatched cottages and converted barns to large modern houses. Different wall types, same approach: confirm the wall, use the right fixing, leave the room as we found it.

Yes. Public liability up to £5m. Certificate available upon request. Further insurance available for higher-value items.

We price by time for smaller jobs, and by day-rate for larger installations. Written quote available before any work starts. No surprise charges. Drop us a photo and we’ll be happy to help.
