In February 2024, Hang It Services was awarded a project by King Solomon School to install over 350 frames throughout their facilities. The project demanded a high level of expertise due to various on-site constraints and a strict deadline. Hang It Services successfully navigated these challenges, exceeding client expectations and delivering a seamless installation process.

Challenge:

King Solomon School sought to revitalize their learning environment by installing poster frames throughout the school. The project required completion within a strict timeframe (half-term week) to minimize disruption to ongoing classes.

Solution:

Hang-It Services deployed a team of six experienced installers to execute the project. The installation was meticulously planned to occur during the half-term break, ensuring a seamless process without impacting the school’s schedule.

Project Scope:

The project entailed the installation of 364 poster frames, each installed with 4-6 standoff fixings. This particular installation required some 2000 fixings installed within a compressed timeframe of five days. Daily targets were established at approximately 80 frames per day, with dedicated time allocated for final adjustments and post-installation cleaning on the concluding day.

Operational Considerations:

Limited access to the school grounds posed a key logistical challenge. Installations were restricted to standard working hours (7:00 AM – 4:00 PM) during the half-term week, coinciding with the caretaker’s availability to address any unforeseen issues. To ensure project completion within the designated timeframe, a highly efficient installation process was implemented.

Team Optimisation:

To maximise efficiency and expedite project completion, the installation team was strategically divided into three pairs. This approach fostered a collaborative environment, with each team motivating one another and readily sharing best practices.

Adaptability and Innovation:

Recognising the inherent complexities associated with large-scale projects, the team prioritised establishing a streamlined workflow during the initial stages. This involved continuous refinement and adaptation to optimise installation procedures throughout the project.

Material Management:

While all frames and fixings were supplied by the school, a quality assessment revealed inconsistencies with industry standards. To ensure long-term durability, a brief on-site detour was made to a local hardware store to replace the fixings with high-quality screws and raw plugs.

Precision Installation:

The project brief mandated the installation of posters in specific configurations – columns of three, positioned centrally and at a predetermined height. Due to the presence of engineering brick walls, meticulous care was taken to avoid drilling into the grout lines. This involved precise optical alignment of each frame to guarantee secure installation.

Precision Installation Techniques:

  • Laser Levelling and Measurement:
    Industry-standard tools, including laser levels and tape measures, were employed to guarantee precise and consistent frame placement. This ensured all frames were horizontally aligned and maintained consistent spacing throughout the installation.

  • Proactive Communication:
    A dedicated communication channel was established with the school to provide regular project updates and facilitate the prompt resolution of any arising concerns.

Adapting to Site Conditions:

  • Heavy-Duty Drilling Requirements:
    An unforeseen challenge presented itself in the form of exceptionally hard engineering brick on specific walls. Standard combi drills proved inadequate, leading to rapid wear and tear. To maintain project timelines, the team transitioned to more robust SDS Plus drills, one for each crew, using high quality SDS bits.

  • Optimised Drilling Approach:
    Through on-site experimentation, the most efficient drilling method was identified. This involved utilising a multi-construction bit to create a pilot hole, followed by the SDS get through the challenging brickwork.

Project Completion and Outcome:

  • Enhanced Learning Environment:
    The strategic placement of poster frames throughout the school resulted in a visually stimulating and positive learning environment. The addition of colorful posters and inspirational quotes in classrooms fostered a more engaging atmosphere for students.

  • Client Satisfaction:
    The project culminated in the successful installation of over 364 frames within the designated timeframe. The school’s leadership team, including the Headteacher and caretaker, expressed their satisfaction with the final outcome and the overall professional execution.

  • Overcoming Challenges:
    Despite encountering minor logistical hurdles, the installation team effectively navigated these challenges to ensure project completion without compromising quality or deadlines.

  • Fresh and Modern Aesthetic:
    The newly installed frames transformed the school’s visual appeal, creating a fresh and modern atmosphere just in time for the students’ return.
