Art installation

  • We specialise in hanging and securing artwork beyond your typical framed pictures or canvases. Here’s what “art installation” means to us:
    • Unique Display Needs: We handle artwork with special requirements, ensuring they’re displayed securely and according to the artist’s intent.
    • Large & Heavy Pieces: Our expertise extends to safely hanging large and heavy framed artwork.
    • Museum & Gallery Support: While museums and galleries use “installation” for the entire exhibition process, we focus on the art hanging and securing aspects within that context.
  • Looking for expert help selecting and arranging your artwork? We can do more than hanging! Many of our technicians have a background in art and years of experience.
  • Tell us about your vision. We’ll match you with the perfect installer who can assist with art selection, curation, and arrangement to create a cohesive and beautiful display in your space.
  • Picture Hanging:
    • Typically refers to hanging framed pictures or canvases.
    • Usually involves standard techniques and hardware.
    • May not require extensive training or special skills.
  • Art Installation:
    • Covers a wider range of artwork, including sculptures, mobiles, mixed media pieces, and unframed works.
    • Often involves unique hanging methods or custom supports depending on the artwork.
    • May require specialised skills, knowledge of art handling, and safety considerations for heavier or more delicate pieces.
    • Sometimes includes additional tasks like assembling the artwork or ensuring proper lighting and positioning.
  • Here’s an analogy:
    • Think of picture hanging like hanging a shelf on the wall. You might use standard tools and techniques you’re familiar with. Art installation is more like mounting a TV on the wall. It might involve specific mounting hardware, considering weight distribution, and ensuring proper cable management.
  • For a balanced and cohesive look, we generally recommend hanging artwork at eye level to the centre of the piece – much as the artist might have viewed it during production. This applies especially to smaller and medium-sized artworks.
  • Why eye level? It creates a natural focal point when viewing the art.
  • Why centre the artwork?  It establishes visual consistency across your collection, even if the pieces themselves vary in size.
  • For very large or tall pieces? We can discuss the optimal placement on a case-by-case basis.
  • Double the Security:  We prioritise hanging your artwork with two secure points whenever possible. This prevents swaying or shifting caused by:
    • Everyday movements: Closing doors or walking by can create subtle vibrations.
    • Wind gusts: Even in enclosed spaces, air currents can cause slight movement.
    • Accidental bumps: A stray nudge or brush against the wall can happen.
  • Two-point hanging ensures your art stays beautifully displayed and minimises the risk of any unwanted movement.
  • While a full gallery wall is a statement, consider curated arrangements. Blank space allows individual pieces to stand out and gives room for your collection to expand.
  • Need to hang pictures on a staircase? Safety first! We use specialised height-adjustable ladders for secure positioning. For very high walls or complex situations, our team is also able to build scaffold towers, ensuring that we get the job done right.
  • Don’t worry about finding the right fixings for your treasures! We have a variety of heavy-duty options that work on different wall materials. Plasterboard can hold up to around 60kg, but if we find the studs behind it, we can safely support even more weight. For brick or concrete walls (masonry), the weight capacity is much higher.
  • We offer discreet and effective solutions to prevent theft of valuable artworks. Our most popular option is a springlock fixing system.  This uses a special key (provided to you) to securely lock your artwork in place.
  • We understand every situation is unique, so we also offer a variety of other security fixing methods to discuss.  We have extensive experience installing these systems in homes, public spaces, and businesses like hotels and restaurants, protecting high-value items in any location.
  • While installing the picture light requires a qualified electrician, we’d be happy to help! We can recommend the perfect light model and manufacturer for your needs, and even connect you with a trusted electrician to handle the installation.

Mirror Hanging

  • Worried about safely hanging your new mirror? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Our friendly mirror hanging service includes a visit to your home to assess the mirror and your wall.
  • We understand mounting mirrors can be tricky, that’s why our experienced technicians are here to help. We’ve hung all sorts of mirrors on all sorts of walls, so you can be confident we’ll find the perfect solution for your unique situation.
  •
  • Everything you need for a perfect hang is included!
Our Mirror Hanging service provides all the standard materials and fixings to securely mount your mirror on any wall type. We’ve carefully selected and tested a variety of hanging solutions to ensure the best possible results.  This means no additional charges for essential fixings, picture wire, or hardware – you just relax and enjoy your beautifully hung mirror.
  • Need extra support for a heavyweight mirror? No problem!  For particularly heavy mirrors, we recommend specialist fixtures like z-bars or steel brackets. These ensure superior support for your prized possession. There’s a small additional cost for these premium fixtures, and we’ll be happy to provide a quote when needed.
  • Don’t worry about finding the right fixings! We have a variety of heavy-duty options that work on different walls. Plasterboard can hold up to around 30kg, but if we find the studs behind it, we can safely support even heavier items.  For brick or concrete walls (masonry), the weight capacity is much higher.
  • Mirrors often come with pre-installed hanging wires, which may be suitable for lightweight mirrors.  However, for larger or heavier mirrors, it’s crucial to use secure fixtures directly attached to the mirror’s frame. This ensures a safe and reliable hang.
  • Not sure what kind of wire you have?  We can help! We’ve seen it all, from manufacturer-installed wires to aftermarket additions.  Our experts can advise on the suitability of your existing wire or recommend a sturdier alternative if needed.
  • The ideal height depends on your mirror’s size and where you’ll be using it. Here’s a general guideline for medium-sized mirrors: aim for the centre of the mirror to be somewhere between shoulder and eye level.
  • Here’s why placement matters:
    • Functionality: Hanging mirrors a bit lower makes them more practical for everyday use.
    • Light and space: Lower placement helps open up the room and creates a brighter feel by reflecting more light throughout the space.
    • Avoiding the “ceiling view”: Mirrors hung too high can just show you the ceiling, which isn’t very useful!
  • Remember, these are just guidelines!  Consider the mirror’s size, your own height, and the intended location to find the perfect spot that works for you.
