Working in Marlow family homes, Georgian town houses and riverside properties

Marlow is one of our nearest Bucks towns, a few minutes over the bridge from our Berkshire patch around Maidenhead and Cookham. Most of the housing is family residential: Victorian and Edwardian terraces and semis around Glade Road, Institute Road, Station Road and Dean Street near the branch line, 1930s and post-war houses filling the long valley of Marlow Bottom, and newer estates towards Wycombe Road. Brick walls with hard plaster in the original rooms, plasterboard in the extensions and loft conversions most have picked up since. We hang gallery walls up stairwells, single pieces over mantels and full rollouts after a house move. A single piece in one room is just as welcome as a whole-house install.

The High Street, West Street and St Peter Street are the period core: Georgian town houses with tall sash windows and panelled rooms, older timber-framed and brick cottages down towards the old bridge and the church, and the coaching inns and shopfronts in between. Shelley lived on West Street and Mary Shelley worked on Frankenstein here, which gives a sense of the age of the stock. Much of it is listed and inside the conservation area: lath and plaster, oak studs, lime render and walls that are rarely square. We locate the timbers before drilling, use reversible fixings on soft infill and fit picture hanging systems where listed building consent rules out new holes.

Along the river and out to the west, the properties get larger. Thames-side houses on Mill Road and Quarry Wood Road, the Arts and Crafts houses around Marlow Common and Bovingdon Green, and the country houses towards Medmenham and Little Marlow bring double-height hallways, galleried landings and big walls that call for large pieces and heavy mirrors. Bisham and Bourne End across the water add their own mix of riverside homes and family housing. We’ll always confirm the wall type before drilling, whatever the property.

Would highly recommend Conor from Hang it Services. He did a great job with about 50 pictures and a heavy mirror in my house. He took time to advise me which pictures could stay where they are, which could be rehung or regrouped and the best place for them to go. He then worked quickly and professionally to get everything up by the end of the day. I am very happy with the result!

Extremely happy with the service I received from Hang It Services. Callum put up a large very heavy mirror and several pictures for us. He advised on placement knowledgeably and was meticulous with measurements to ensure that the items were hung where we agreed and perfectly straight. He was professional and friendly. I wouldn’t hesitate to use this company again.

I had Rowan to hang about 30 pictures both large and small after a redecoration and he’s done a fantastic job and also gave invaluable advice on placement. Some are hung lower than I would have put them or grouped slightly differently but this is where it pays to use an expert rather than getting in a handyman as they look so very good.

James visited for the second time to hang some more pictures. From initial enquiry to carrying out the task is quick. He takes time to explain the options of hanging and also what will look best. He works efficiently and tidily. I would have no hesitation in recommending James for any hanging requirements that you may have.

Absolutely loved the experience of having ‘Hang It’ sort all my pictures out. James was brilliant and has such a good eye for what works where . I can’t recommend them enough, from the super friendly and efficient David in the office, to meeting and spending the day with James. Moving house can be so stressful but using such a brilliant company to hang your pictures is definitely a wonderful treat. Thanks guys , Gaynor

Picture hanging Marlow FAQs

Most Marlow bookings happen within a few days, and being close to our Berkshire base helps. For urgent jobs, we can sometimes fit them in within 48 hours. Call us, and we’ll give you our up-to-date availability.

Yes. A lot of our Marlow work is one piece in one room. Photo-First quote system means you’ll know the price before we arrive, so there’s no minimum-spend surprise.

Yes. The town centre is largely listed and inside the conservation area, with panelled rooms, lath and plaster, timber frames and lime render behind the Georgian fronts. We find the timbers or brick first, fix into them where possible, use reversible fixings on soft infill and panelling, and fit picture hanging systems where listed building consent rules out new wall holes.

The Victorian and Edwardian houses near the station and the 1930s and post-war houses in Marlow Bottom usually have brick walls with hard plaster in the original rooms and plasterboard in later extensions and loft conversions. We carry fixings for both and check each wall before drilling, so a heavy piece in a rear extension goes up as securely as one on the original front wall.

Yes. Bisham, Bourne End, Little Marlow, Bovingdon Green, Marlow Common, Well End and Medmenham are all inside our Marlow coverage, and Cookham and Maidenhead are on our home patch across the river. Different wall types, same approach: confirm the wall, use the right fixing, leave the room as we found it.

Yes. Public liability up to £5m. Certificate available upon request. Further insurance available for higher-value items.

We price by time for smaller jobs, and by day-rate for larger installations. Written quote available before any work starts. No surprise charges. Drop us a photo and we’ll be happy to help.
