Pimlico is one of central London’s most coherent residential neighbourhoods. The whole area was planned by Thomas Cubitt in the 1830s and 40s, and the grid of white stucco terraces running from Lupus Street through to Belgrave Road remains largely intact. Stucco-fronted period townhouses around mature central gardens, with original lath and plaster, ornate cornicing and the proportions of mid-Victorian planning. Larger Belgrave Road mansion blocks add an Edwardian residential layer.
Dolphin Square — the iconic 1937 Art Deco apartment block with over 1,200 flats — is a distinctive Pimlico property type all of its own. Lillington Gardens and Churchill Gardens (Grade II listed post-war modernist housing) add architecturally significant later residential. Millbank to the east, with Tate Britain anchoring the riverside, brings collectors and gallery-adjacent residents into the area.
